Baku are Japanese supernatural beings that are said to devour nightmares. They originate from the chinese Mo. According to legend, they were created by the spare pieces that were left over when the gods finished creating all other animals. They have a long history in Japanese folklore and art, and more recently have appeared in manga and anime.
 What’s your favorite Japanese supernatural being? Mine have been the yurei, Japanese ghost. My schedule opens up after the summer season and the d love to tattoo more images like this. Nhtattoo@gmail.com Thanks

In Japanese culture and folklore, snakes, or hebi, have many meanings:
Protection;
Snakes are often seen as symbols of protection. For example, Japanese ratsnakes are associated with protection against pests and agricultural prosperity.

Transformation and rebirth;
Snakes shed their skin, which can symbolize rebirth, transformation, immortality, and healing.

Messengers and deities;
In some Shinto beliefs, snakes are seen as messengers or incarnations of deities and are often worshipped in temples.
  Internal struggle;
When paired with a Hannya mask, a snake can represent a personal journey of transformation or internal struggle. It can also suggest shedding negative emotions and the emergence of a new, enlightened self. Thanks for your support and trust Patrick. It was great hanging out with you.

A prestigious pet. Chinese traders first brought goldfish to Japan in 1502, and sold them to the samurai and nobility as highly prized pets. Like China, the goldfish serves as a symbol of wealth, fortune, and good luck.

Thank you as always Dakota, you always have the best of ideas. …..Namakubi (severed head) in tattoo can be used to show many things, courage, a warning, respect for foe, or just as an image of no fear.  Willingness to accept your fate and with honour is one for the messages namakubi is used for.  A brutal image none the less, it is applied not as shock factor only,  but as an element to the circle of life, for example-when taking a head it is done with respect for the person and that persons cause, but can also be used to show others the punishment if they are not living a truly righteous life.

Progress… Hannya, a woman whose soul has been possessed by a demon due to jealousy or obsession becoming a demon of demons and Jorōgumo, the shape shifting spider who turns into a woman and lures men in to eat them.. Just a little more time on Alex and we will wrap this one up. As in my last post this is also his First tattoo! I have a handful of full sitting days open next month to start your first tattoo project. As I wrap some of these big tattoos up it leaves me with a few half days open if you are looking for a smaller one sitting tattoo. How about a yokia? . #midnightmoontattoo #mathewclarketattoo #meredithnh #japanesetattoo #nhjapanesetattooartist
