Recently, we posted a blog talking all about how people all over the world were choosing to have medical alerts tattooed on their bodies. One of the most important types of these medical alerts is the Type 1 Diabetes plaque that many that have this autoimmune disease are choosing to have done.

Type 1 Diabetes is NOT a choice. Unlike Type 2 Diabetes, Type 1 typically begins when you are a very young child. It is something that your body has no choice in getting (usually after a viral outbreak) and there is no cure. It also comes with a laundry list of day-to-day tasks that require constant attention. As well, the costs that are associated with it are astronomical– up to $7900 per year for diabetes alone! Total medical costs are approximately 2.3 times higher than for those without diabetes.

-What?-

A few weeks ago, one of our artists met with someone who has Type 1 Diabetes. He was having a medical alert tattoo placed on his wrist so that he would not have to wear his bracelet anymore (it can be a hazard in some careers). After speaking about Type 1 Diabetes and the cause itself, Midnight Moon Tattoo & Piercing wanted to help as much as we could.

We have decided to hold a Free-for-Donation tattoo day where we will offer a medical alert tattoo predesigned for anyone who is over the age of 18 and in need. This service will be done free of charge, however, we ask that if you can you donate towards the cause.

-Who?-

All (and we mean all, 100%, everything) of the proceeds from this awareness event will be donated to American Diabetes Association Camp Carefree in New Durham, New Hampshire. ADA Camp Carefree is a summer camp where children with Type 1 Diabetes can enjoy many traditional camp activities with other children with Type 1 Diabetes, as well as learn the life skills they need to manage their disease. This camp greatly relies upon donations—and Midnight Moon wants to help them as much as possible.

-When?-

Our Tattoo Day will be held on Saturday April 2nd, 2016 from 10am to 6pm. During these hours anyone can walk into our studio and get a Type 1 Diabetic medical alert tattoo from any of our three available artists. The fee will be donation based, as mentioned above.

But what if you can’t make it that day? Not to worry! The week leading up the event, March 29th – April 1st we will still be accepting clients as well as doing the free-for-donation medical alert tattoo. We only ask that you make an appointment in advance if you plan to come on one of those days.
